Adjutant Mike - December news 2025
I'm one of those people who think when a good thing happens it's because it's suppose to occur.
At the last Veterans Day event lots of good went on. We'll soon be celebrating our Veteran Family and friends by honoring them for about a month in May in downtown Grass Valley.
We joined together to provide food not only for our fellow Veterans and Families but for all those in need in our community.
So .... after the celebration I turn on KNCO and who are they talking with? Susan the owner of Tofanellis who was one of those ... and she prefers being called a "Stewardess" in my personal conversations with her ... stunning the interviewer with her story & details.
To top all this off Marrilee Shannon is a CLUBMOBILE UNIT local who was a "Donut Dollie". We are teaming up to bring in some fellow Dollies and show their film about "life as" come the 2026 celebration of our Vietnam Vets. Pencil in March 28th and wait for the details.
Then ... this guy by the name of Tom Munroe spent time honoring a group of people who are lost in the mix typically. Women in service to America. Tom spoke of the "Donut Dollies" who were USO volunteers simply trying to add a bit of normalacy for those of us in Vietnam. There were the Red Cross medical help that tried to help us make it home. There were Women flight attendants, "Stewardesses" in the old days, who flew in some crazy circumstances flying with guys paranoid about where they were headed, damaged having been there, or simply numb for 17 hours.
The City of Grass Valley looks forward to honoring our Veterans and active Military on a routine and appropriate basis. Banners will be constructed and displayed on the town's light poles along Main Street for the month of May.
We are working the details out but figure a $90 donation to the Legion's Vet support fund will get a banner up honoring you, your friend and or Family member in downtown Grass Valley for a Month.
... and... Check this out. One of the volunteers in our food event on the 19th was a woman Vet. She was the 2nd ever woman to participate in the Army's OCS. (Officer's Candidate School) She served for a career and will join in on the next NCCVC meeting to seek help for the volunteer organizations she works with. All absolutely cool!
