Adjutant Mike - January 2026
I hope this is a pre-cursor of what we all can look forward to in 2026 .....
I got together with the City of Grass Valley's leaders and staff in late December to go over plans for initiating the "Hometown Heroes" project to honor Veterans and the critical heroes like the USO, Red Cross and select others who helped us make it through. This will involve displaying banners in Downtown for extended periods of time which highlight the Veteran and their service information. After display, the banners will be donated back to the Veteran or their family.
A sample banner will be created to introduce the program at the January City Council meeting and to the public. The program will be kicked off in late April or early May.
Banners will be two sided and can either have the same Veteran on both sides or ... think about this ... the Veteran and a Veteran family member like their Father, Son, Daughter, an active family member or ? as an example.
Dig through those photos you have held onto from your time in service get your family member in gear. Find that good photo. Gather service info like which service, rank, conflict and get ready to share it with me to create your banner. Eighteen banners will be created per display run.
Every Veteran Organization will share the space. The Post will cover the small costs involved in the 2 or 3 that we envision as our share to start the whole project.
Good news #2 ... An outstanding local roof contractor has volunteered to replace a deserving Veterans home roof in need of replacement. ... for FREE! Yep ... read that again. If you or a fellow Veteran is in need let me know. This message is going out across the range of Vet organizations so the right deserving recipient can be selected. The only criteria I would guesstimate is that the structure must be a local not for profit home/structure. Details will be available after the January NCCVC meeting on the 8th.
We will be staging another NCCVC supported FREE lunch on January 21st. Every Veteran's organization has donated to the efforts in support of our community. Know a hungry VET in need? How about any fellow Nevada County family?
Share this information and invite them to come to the lunch, pick one up or have Meals on Wheels bring them a great meal, if they cannot make it into town.
Check out the flyer ... Want to volunteer? Want to contribute? Let us know. It's very short and easy work you're stepping up to! A $mall donation goes a long way.
Volunteer to help out… or contribute. A small donation goes a long way!
